You will be responsible for:

As a Technical Team Leader of a DevOps team in Marco Polo Network Engineering, you take accountability for the output of the whole team and are responsible for each of the team members individual growth and well-being. You are the voice of the team in the broader engineering and company contexts but also encourage the individual voices to be heard. You will work with your team and the wider engineering groups to agree direction and architectural approaches. Once the team have committed to their deliverables you will ensure that the team's goals are met.

In Marco Polo we manage via Objectives and Key Results, and you will be responsible for ensuring that the team and individual OKRs reflect, support, and deliver on the company OKRs.


On any given day you might:

We’re looking for people with a strong background in and interest in building network management + CICD systems and while also building developer tools, dashboards and data pipelines.

  • Management and development of continuous integration and deployment solutions for production applications across various services.
  • Spearhead the creation of new technology infrastructure and maintains configuration, automation and infrastructure as code tools.
  • Run the team responsible for troubleshooting issues in development systems
  • Responsible for the architecture and technical leadership of the entire DevOps infrastructure.
  • Designing, building, and optimizing comprehensive automation systems that operate the business’s network, web, mobile and data infrastructure platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership and assist engineering teams in the navigation of technologies such as Go, Python, Groovy, Postgres, Kubernetes and so forth.
  • Coach the engineering development department personnel in the workings of reusable tools and patterns.
  • Keep up with industry best practices and trends on behalf of the DevOps department and the larger engineering department.
  • Conduct research, tests, and implement new metrics collection systems that can be reused and applied to any site/software development project.
  • Lead the design, build, and running of systems behind the Marco Polo Network
  • Plan for the growth of Marco Polo Network’s infrastructure
  • Continuously improve everything we do, debug production issues
  • Implement more effective ways of supporting our clients and team
  • Find innovative ways to overcome complex technical challenges
  • Reporting the right things in the right way at the right time
  • Acting as a gatekeeper you will work in a way that protects our people, systems and complies with our InfoSec and security policies and procedures
  • Continuously improve how we get things done; recommend and implement better faster more effective ways of supporting our clients and team
  • Effectively execute any special projects or ad-hoc tasks as assigned

You will bring

  • At least 5 years of working experience in a DevOps capacity, preferably as a DevOps Engineer.
  • Experience automating the management of large-scale infrastructure and have significant familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, infrastructure as code and configuration management technologies.
  • Vast experience in systems automation, orchestration, deployment, and implementation.
  • Experience using Jenkins and Linux as well as experience configuring and automating monitoring tools.
  • Experience in software development and experience working with tools and languages such as Go, SaaS, Git, Python, Shell scripting, Java, and PostgresDB.
  • Experience in scaling distributed data systems, for example, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, among others. The candidate will further have had experience with highly scalable systems.
  • A keen understanding of monitoring solutions for all layers of web infrastructure.
  • A comprehensive understanding of at least two cloud technologies, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platforms, AWS or IBM Cloud.
  • Must be a result oriented individual and helpful in nature.
  • Must be a creative and strategic thinker.
  • Be highly analytical, work comfortably in a constantly evolving environment.
